The Secretary of Tourism, Miguel Torruco, highlighted that Mexico now has 177 Magical Towns. Due to their nature, community life, customs, and traditions, these destinations are preferred by national and international visitors worldwide. He stressed that the "Pueblo Magico" brand implies an annual increase of 8% in the Gross Added Value Census of the destination that receives the appointment. In addition, SECTUR will continue to promote these destinations through the "Magical Routes of Color" initiative.

He emphasized that efforts will be redoubled to promote its tourist heritage through the International Magical Towns Tianguis, the Tianguis of Magical Towns, and the traditional Tourism Tianguis of Mexico.

The new Magical Towns are: Cozumel, Ixtenco, Otumba, Zihuatanejo, Córdoba, Ixcateopan, Hidalgo del Parral, and Copainalá. The head of Tourism highlighted that in the 2023 call, they received 123 requests from 27 entities, of which only 87 included complete files.

Certainly, this had been one of the objectives for the beach binomial. Improvements have been made in the tourist infrastructure: a new dock, repaving of main roads, construction of roofs in pedestrian areas, periodic cleaning of all streets and bike paths, and the renewed Paseo del Pescador that make Zihuatanejo at this time one of the preferred destinations of the national and international market.

Tourism service providers are very excited about this news, as the distinction as a Magical Town is expected to represent a greater arrival of national and international tourists for all of them, which would translate into an economic benefit for Zihuatanejo.

The Secretary of Tourism of the State of Guerrero, Lic. Santos Ramírez Cuevas said that "the work carried out by Governor Evelyn Salgado Pineda through the Ministry of Tourism is giving tangible results, since at the beginning of this administration, Guerrero only had Taxco de Alarcón as a Magical Town. Today, with these appointments, it reaches three Magical Towns in total. The Magical Towns Program contributes to revaluing a set of populations in the country that have always been in the Nation's collective imaginary and represent fresh and varied alternatives for national and foreign visitors. Teamwork with municipal governments, the tourism sector, and the new Magical Towns committees were key to obtaining these long-awaited appointments. For this reason, this achievement is historic for the state. Guerrero shines and stands out nationally and invites you to discover its three charming Magical Towns: Taxco de Alarcón, Ixcateopan de Cuauhtémoc, and Zihuatanejo, as well as a Magical Neighborhood: El Santuario in Tixtla."

The Municipal President of Zihuatanejo de Azueta, Jorge Sánchez Allec, commented: "I feel deeply excited to receive this new appointment for Zihuatanejo after we have been working for many years to achieve it, together with Pedro Castelán from the Ixtapa Zihuatanejo Convention and Visitors Bureau; Jesús Gallegos, Director of Municipal Tourism, and with the support of the Secretary of Tourism, Santos Ramírez Cuevas."

And he continued: "Without a doubt, being a Magical Town is the consolidation that we have been working for and will be a great promotion for Ixtapa Zihuatanejo, an appointment that adds to everything that has been achieved, such as the new flights from such important cities as Monterrey, Querétaro, León, and the new flights from the Felipe Ángeles International Airport. Today, without a doubt, talking about Zihuatanejo Magical Town is talking about one more achievement of this beautiful place where we are fortunate to live."

Pedro Castelán Reyna, Executive Director of the Ixtapa Zihuatanejo Convention and Visitors Bureau, mentioned that "this appointment is the result of years of work by the industry to position Ixtapa Zihuatanejo in the top beach places in Mexico and internationally. Through the Convention and Visitors Bureau, the State and Municipal Governments, and the Hotel Associations, we have managed to position our destination in the minds of tourists, proof of which is this distinction. We are committed and will continue to advance to give this beautiful destination the place it deserves."
